Seville Cathedral and Seville

Visiting the Giralda of Seville

After visiting Seville Cathedral, we must visit La Giralda, undoubtedly the city’s most recognizable symbol and the result of the fusion of cultures. It is considered the most beautiful viewpoint over the city of Seville.

Climbing its 35 easily accessible ramps brings us closer to the sky and offers us spectacular views of the city, Triana, one of its most emblematic neighborhoods, and the Guadalquivir River. As a final touch, don’t forget to take the best photos of La Giralda for your social media. Frame your snapshot between the facades of Calle Francos or from Mateos Gago Street, the beginning of the Santa Cruz neighborhood.

To visit La Giralda, you can use the same tickets as those for Seville Cathedral.

Taking my guided tour of Seville Cathedral will become your best experience. Check the comments that other people have left about our guided tour and choose your visit. Contact me for availability and booking, and I will inform you about the necessary documentation.

Visit to the Roofs of Seville Cathedral

During the visit to the roofs of Seville Cathedral, which lasts approximately an hour and a half, you will have the opportunity to learn about the history and architecture of the Cathedral, as well as to enjoy the breathtaking panoramic views of the city of Seville.

Please note that the visit to the roofs involves climbing stairs and may not be suitable for people with reduced mobility. I would recommend wearing comfortable shoes and bringing a water bottle, especially during the summer months.

History of Seville Cathedral

The history of Seville Cathedral is written in the Santa Cruz neighborhood, next to the Royal Alcázar, on the site of the ancient 12th-century mosque. It still preserves parts that allow us to imagine its ancient Islamic past, such as the Door of Pardon, the Courtyard of the Oranges, and “La Giralda,” its bell tower.

The Almohad heritage is also visible in the nearby towers that were part of the walled city and can still be admired: the Tower of Gold, the Tower of Silver, and the Tower of Bronze.

Later, with the arrival of Christianity in the 13th century, it was transformed into the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and the third in size after St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.

In the 16th century, the Cathedral was completed with significant works of the finest Spanish Renaissance: the Main Sacristy, the Chapter Hall, and the Royal Chapel.

Door of Forgiveness and Courtyard of the Oranges

Our first steps on this tour will lead us to pass through the Door of Forgiveness and the Courtyard of the Oranges, the starting point for the visit to one of the most important monuments in the city.

This courtyard preserves its Almohad structure as an area for ablutions and a system of irrigation through ditches. After crossing the geometric orange grove, our steps will take us inside Seville Cathedral.

Interior of the Cathedral of Seville

Walking through the interior of Seville Cathedral is like taking a stroll among gigantic stone columns that soar to make it the largest Gothic temple in the world. We will enjoy the outstanding Royal Chapel, which houses the tombs of Ferdinand III and his son Alfonso X, the Main Sacristy, and the Chapter Hall.

We will walk through its aisles, delving into its history and enjoying the works of art it treasures, including its Main Altarpiece, the tomb with the remains of Christopher Columbus, and numerous paintings by artists such as Murillo, Zurbarán, and Valdés Leal, among others.
