During my guided visit, we will enjoy a collection of masterpieces that are part of the history of art. Brushstrokes by Murillo, Valdés Leal, and Velázquez, as well as sculptures by Torrigiano and Juan de Mesa, make up part of the journey through the history of art that takes us from the Middle Ages to the 20th century.

History of the Fine Arts Museum of Seville
The building we see today, the former Mercedarian convent of the 17th century, is considered one of the most beautiful examples of Andalusian Mannerism, whose complex is the result of various transformations throughout the centuries.
Itinerary through the Interior of the Fine Arts Museum of Seville
The museum’s vestibule surprises us with the ceramic panels that cover its walls, from the retablo-façades of the Sevillian convents that were expropriated, a varied repertoire represented in the Patio del Aljibe, the Patio de los Bojes, or the set of the façade of the Convent of the Pópulo that decorates the vestibule.
Walking through the interior of the museum is to stroll through its courtyards such as the Aljibe, from which we access the Patio de los Bojes and on the right to the Claustro Mayor. As the axis of all of them, we find the Great Staircase. Finally, it is essential to highlight the sober but large church, where we can admire the Sevillian genius Murillo.

Artistic Itinerary at the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville
We begin our tour of the Museum of Fine Arts in Seville in the Middle Ages, continuing through works of Spanish and European Renaissance, taking a step into the most spectacular Baroque period, extensively represented by the masterpieces of Sevillian artist Bartolomé Estaban Murillo, including his famous “Virgin of the Napkin” and his “Saints Justa and Rufina,” which adorn the conventual church’s grand space, along with unique works of Zurbarán such as his “Virgin of the Caves,” not to mention Valdés Leal, who is given an entire room, or Roelas with his “Martyrdom of Saint Andrew.”
The 19th and 20th centuries are equally represented in the art gallery with works by Antonio María Esquivel, the costumbrista painting of Gonzalo Bilbao, and the new European trends with Gustavo Bacarisas and his chromatic richness.
Undoubtedly, our guided visit to the Museum of Fine Arts offers a very special look into the history of art, with a collection of artworks that is only surpassed by the Prado Museum in Madrid.
